  • 988 Alternatives:

    * 988 can be lethal and at the very least traumatizing due to police response and violence. I highly recommend prioritizing calling warm lines or peer support lines first. Visit warmline.org to find the warmline that serves your county or state.     • Michigan Peer Warmline at 1-888-733-7753, which is serviced by peer support specialists and recovery coaches from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. EST every day.
    • Blackline (1 (800) 604-5841) is a hotline geared toward the Black, Black LGBTQ+, brown, Native, and Muslim communities
    • StrongHearts Native Helpline (1-844-7-NATIVE, or 1-844-762-8483) This is a 24/7 safe, confidential and anonymous domestic and sexual violence helpline for Native Americans and Alaska Natives, offering culturally appropriate support and advocacy.
    • Coordinated Assessment Model (CAM Line) (313-963-6601) A hotline for Detroiters in need of temporary emergency shelter
    • United Way (Call 211 or 800-552-1183) A general resource hotline for Southeast Michigan residents in need of material supports (housing, healthcare, clothing, food, furniture, legal aid, etc.)
    • Kiva Centers (https://kivagroups.carrd.co) offers daily online peer support groups
    • Peer Support Space (https://peersupportspace.org/daily-gatherings) hosts virtual peer support groups twice a day Monday through Saturday email mary@peersupportspace.org. Zoom information to join the calls will be sent your way!
    • Project LETS (https://projectlets.org/crisis-support) provides support by text for urgent issues that involve involuntary hospitalization
    • Transgender Michigan (800-604-5841) 24/7 support for trans/nonbinary and questioning folks, including information about local resources, and crisis support from a trans woman who is also a veteran community organizer, and an experienced clinical social worker
    • Trans Lifeline (US (877) 565-8860) is a peer supported hotline for trans and questioning individuals
    • Wildflower Alliance (https://wildfloweralliance.org/online-support-groups/) has a peer support line and online support groups focused on suicide prevention
    • National Eating Disorder Association Helpline (1-800-931-2237) This is a confidential helpline for individuals who are struggling with eating disorders, as well as their loved ones. You can call or text this helpline to receive support, information, and referrals to treatment resources.
    • Love Is Respect (866-331-9474) The national hotline to support young and young adults navigating dating violence and abuse in intimate relationships
    • National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) This is a confidential hotline for individuals who are experiencing domestic violence or abuse. You can call this hotline to receive support, safety planning, and referrals to local resources for assistance.
    • Avalon Healing (313-474-7233) Wayne County’s (Michigan) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), provides urgent support to survivors of recent sexual assault, including accompaniment to medical appointments, advocacy for folks considering completion of rape kits, navigation of legal resources to facilitate safety, etc. Special competencies for Black women.
    • RAINN (800-656-4673 or live chat at https://rainn.org) The National SA Hotline 24/7 Free and Confidential Support
    • Deaf Crisis Line (1-321-800-3323) This hotline is specifically for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and use American Sign Language as their primary language. You can use a videophone to call this number and speak with a trained counselor who is fluent in ASL.
    • Trevor Project (1-866-488-7386) This is a 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ+ youth. You can call or text START to 678678 to connect with a trained counselor.
    • Teen Line (1-310-855-4673 or 1-800-852-8336 or text TEEN to 839863) A non-profit, community-based organization that provides emotional support to youth. It is their mission to provide peer-based education and support before problems become a crisis. Phone Line available 6pm-10pm (PST). Text Line available 6pm-9pm (PST). Email support and online message boards also available
    • 1-800-RUNAWAY (800-786-2929) 24/7 Crisis hotline for youth & teens offering live chats, e-mail support, forums, and additional resource referrals.
    • The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (Call or Text 1-800-422-4453 and live chat at https://childhelphotline.org/ ) If you are being hurt, know someone who might be hurting, or are afraid you might hurt another, call or text the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline.
    • SAMHSA National Helpline (1-800-662-HELP or 1-800-662-4357) This is a 24/7 helpline for substance abuse and mental health support that will connect you with a trained specialist.
    • SAMHSA's Disaster Distress Helpline (Call or Text 1-800-985-5990) Provides 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters.
    • Poison Control (Call 1-800-222-1222 or Text POISON to 797979) Contact Poison Control right away for expert medical advice if you suspect a poisoning or poison-related emergency such as chemical burns. Help is available via text, online with www.poison.org or by phone 24/7. Every option is free, expert, and confidential
    • NAMI Helpline (1-800-950-NAMI, or 1-800-950-6264) This is a helpline for anyone seeking information or support related to mental health available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. EST. You can also email info@nami.org.
    • Veterans Crisis Line: Dial 800-273-8255 and press 1 to talk to someone or send a text message to 838255 to connect with a VA responder. You can also start a confidential online chat session at Veterans Crisis Chat. veteranscrisisline.net
